To enable the systemd start script again, simply remove the newly added #īy Xideta, commented on -> DamionGans/ubuntu-wsl2-systemd-script#37 Put a # on the start of the line that says "source /usr/sbin/start-systemd-namespace" If you want to disable the systemd start script, do the following: You can run the script again in that case.

You can either install daemonize or disable the startup script.ĭo note however, that it's quite likely that the other things the script tried to install failed. If you do have some output, please post it in a reply. I assume you'll have no output (I have "/usr/bin/daemonize" for example). You should be able to log into WSL by typing "wsl -u root" in cmd or powershell.Ĭheck if daemonize is installed by typing "which daemonize". Looks like daemonize wasn't found for some reason. Sorry.ĭeleting ubuntu from PC and re-installing them solved this error.ĭon't forget to use -ac as argument. Gnome-session-binary: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. ssh-keygen -t rsa -C now I can use virt-manager from Windows 10 and it works great. I also created a keypair and uploaded my public key to the remote computer. Since virt-manager needs to connect to a remote computer I had to install ssh-askpass. Now you can just run it in the Linux GUI application in the terminal with a &. echo 'export DISPLAY=localhost:0.0' > ~/.bashrc To have it be the default add that line to ~/.bashrc which will run it on login. Now Xming will start automatically when Windows 10 starts.

Then I installed the program I want to launch. This might take a while to download and install the updates so you can jump ahead. It will be available in the Start Menu under the name of the distribution you chose, Ubuntu for me.įirst I made sure it was up to date and was able to fetch programs. When it asks you to sign in just say No, Thanks as it is already installing.

You have to install it through the Windows Store but don't worry you don't need an account. Open PowerShell as Administrator and run: Enable-WindowsOptionalFeature -Online -FeatureName Microsoft-Windows-Subsystem-Linux I did find this ServerFault answer about using the Windows Subshell for Linux and I was able to get it working. So I decided to see if I could run virt-manager on my Windows 10 host but there is no Windows installer for it.

The VM was running on a remote host and I was connecting to it with virt-manager.įor some reason it was making my local Linux VM very sluggish and it was taking minutes to update the mouse position on the remote VM with virt-manager. Today I was trying to setup a Windows 7 VM to build an installer. My computer boots into Windows 10 and then I run a Linux VM. Linux is my main development environment but I also need to test things on Windows.
